This is the most popular question and with good reason!! So, here is the answer...there isn't a right answer. I know, it's not what you expected to hear, but I'll explain why it isn't so easy to answer.
One of the first things you need to think about is... what you plan on doing with your portraits? If your answer is, I want to hang it over the mantle in our Living Room, I would suggest you think about the color scheme in that room particular room. You certainly want to avoid wearing colors that would clash with the decor in your Living Room. You would probably want to dress in neutral tones for your portrait session.
One very popular approach for dressing a family is to wear matching outfits. There are different versions to this approach....
One version is to have everyone in the family wear the same color bottom and the same color top (khaki colored pants and a black shirt, jeans with blue shirts).
Another approach is matching parents and matching children. This means you have the parents match by wearing the same color top and bottom. The children would then wear a different color top/bottom than their parents (but the children would match each other).
Finally, there is the version to have genders match each other (males wear jeans and gray shirts, females wear jeans with lilac tops).
If matching doesn't suit your style, then pulling together coordinating outfits is the right answer for you! This is also my personal FAVORITE style and I recommend this approach to my clients. But, remember...everyone is different. Ultimately, as the client, you want to wear something that reflects YOUR style and YOUR personality. I advise my clients to search the wonderful world of Pintrest for clothing option ideas, too.
Check out the photo on the left. You will notice the different shades of gray and pops of red to make a gorgeous holiday photo.
In addition, I would also suggest to stay away from shirts with large graphics or logos- they can be distracting in photographs. When it comes to plaid or busy designs, I would also suggest to keep them for the bottom part of your outfit (shorts, skirt). I personally feel wearing busy designs as a top takes away from your face as being the focal point of the photo. However, if you really have your heart set on wearing a striped/plaid shirt, I would suggest wearing it as an accent by also wearing a solid undershirt that will give a "pop" of color and break up that busy look.
So, as you can see, there really isn't ONE right answer to this popular question...it's all a matter of preference. But, no matter what approach you decide to use, I'm sure beautiful photographs will be the end result!
For newborn photo sessions, I will come to you. Those first few days of having a newborn can be exhausting and hectic so, wanting to be in the comfort of your own home is understandable.
For Family Portraits and Cake Smash sessions, photos can be taken in your home or outside (backyard/front yard) of your home, if you prefer. There is also the option to meet at a local park or arboretum to shoot your Family Portraits, too.
*Please note, there is a travel fee for locations outside of Nassau County*
Yes! The best time to take outdoor photos is usually 1-2 hours after sunrise or 1-2 hours before sunset. Of course, those times may not always be convenient for clients. However, if the outdoor location you have in mind has some areas with shade then, we should be fine. Also, overcast days are the best! As wonderful as sunlight is, it can be harsh when it comes to photography. It can overexpose the subject's features and makes people squint.
Of course! As a mom to three little monkeys, I completely understand that kids get sick or things pop up unexpectedly. We will reschedule your session. Please try to contact me at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule.
Yes, please! A non-refundable retainer is required to secure your session.
I'm like a kid in a candy store and will usually drop a sneak peek later that night on Facebook!! Turnaround time is usually 2-3 weeks, depending on the session. Newborn sessions might be closer to the 3 week mark since a lot of time can be spent editing the baby's skin. Other sessions are usually completed sooner.
When I have finished editing your photos, I will upload them to a password protected gallery for you to view. You will then have the opportunity to select your favorite images from the session. Your images can be downloaded directly from your gallery.
